We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. [–] Aristotle

dedication image 1When a child commits to being involved in the sport of gymnastics, they are dedicating their time and efforts into a sport that is challenging. Not only do gymnasts have to be willing to work hard, but they also have to have the drive to push themselves past their fears and hardships. It’s not an easy task to master going upside down and flipping on a 4 inch beam gracefully. It takes a lot of trial and error and effort.

When athletes reach a high level in any sport their level of dedication must increase. Their training hours are raised, the demanded on their bodies increase and the skills become harder to master. In gymnastics it takes a lot of time and effort to learn new skills. The body has to get stronger and the mind tougher.

We can do anything we want to do if we stick to it long enough. [–] Helen Keller

dedication image 2When I was training at the elite level I had to decide if I wanted to be dedicated to my gymnastics career, or go to a public high school and be a normal student. I decided after a week of contemplation to be dedicated to my gymnastics career, even though I was a high school student who was very social. I dedicated myself to being the best gymnast I could at the highest level of gymnastics and I trained hard day in and day out.

By training hard and pushing myself through the hard days I earned a full athletic scholarship. Not only had my hard work paid off, but I was now in control of my destiny and had the ability to pick where I wanted to go to school. Continuous hard work and dedication always pays off in the end. I will forever be grateful that I had gymnastics to teach me those character traits, along with great parents who supported me every step of the way.

With will one can do anything. [–] Samuel Smiles
